SPORTING KC + BREAKOUT KC

BRANDING | EXPERIENTIAL DESIGN

BACKGROUND

Breakout KC and Sporting Kansas City teamed up to deliver Kansas City’s first professional sports escape room as well as 2021’s Breakout and Seek activity at Children’s Mercy Park.

Our mission was to develop an identity that marries the Breakout KC and Sporting KC brands with an emphasis on the fan experience that would be successful for the permanent Matchday Mayhem escape room and the one-day Breakout and Seek event.

MATCHDAY MAYHEM

BRAND AND LAUNCH CAMPAIGN ASSETS

With the goal of establishing a middle ground between Sporting KC and Breakout KC’s brands, the identity for Matchday Mayhem strikes this balance by providing a sharper, athletic shield featuring Breakout KC’s common keyhole symbol on a less-serious soccer ball.

IN-ROOM PUZZLE ASSETS

Breakout KC’s escape rooms are full of clues which are provided in stages. Matchday Mayhem in particular has many of these puzzles delivered through printed assets from posters, to playbooks and a handful of fake logos.

BREAKOUT AND SEEK 2021

BRAND AND CAMPAIGN ASSETS

Breakout and Seek, Breakout KC’s one-time pop-up escape room was put on hold throughout the early stages of the pandemic. Once it was safe to get together in large groups and Matchday Mayhem had proven itself as a popular escape room, Sporting KC and Breakout KC continued their cooperative effort to deliver unique experiences to fans of both brands with an immersive scavenger hunt at Children’s Mercy Park.

Although most game and puzzle assets were visually similar to those from Matchday Mayhem, a new identity for the event was required. This identity combines the themes of previous Breakout and Seek events with Matchday Mayhem’s identity.
